9mobile RCS service now available in Nigeria on Android devices.

Got a notification on my SMS app and found out RCS was activated on my 9mobile enabled sim. That’s cool and I’ll get into why it is soon.

So what is RCS? According to Wikipedia here, Rich Communication Services is a communication protocol between mobile-telephone carriers and between phone and carrier, aiming at replacing SMS messages with a text-message system that is richer, provides phonebook polling, and can transmit in-call multimedia. It is part of a broader IP Multimedia Subsystem.

So let us understand this more, with RCS, you can send more than just SMS over cell network. Something like what you see on iMessage.

Imagine what we have on iMessage working on Android. So yea. That’s it. We will like to also send multimedia and emojis over sms, chat and do more from our SMS app.
